While we were in the states a storm blew through. We came out for a weekend to find a 1/2 inch of water in the two bedroom and bath. The nailed down tin had been ripped off the chipboard underneath above one bedroom and the bath. The floor slopes and the water flowed into the second bedroom. No water in the kitchen. Blue mold on the ceilings of the effected rooms.
By the next day with aid from my original contractor Luis we had a team out inspecting the damage. Dana and I found refuge at a $25/night cabin in Las Lajas. On the way back I picked up a 20' sq plastic tarp and used tires from a tire repair stand. These were used to cover the roof and hold the trap down until repair materials and crew showed up two days later to make repairs.
Ah yes that 1st night in Las Lajas. Pretty tired from slopping up water in the rooms and still more to mop up. I used a window squeegee and a dust bin to sweep up the water. The town was filled to capacity (except for this ) with European tourists.
Hay a dry bed to sleep in and AC with a in room bath. What more could you ask for, for $25/n
Armed with a 20' sq. ft tarp and tires to hold it down from a repair stand we being the road back to repairing the damage. Luis our engineer had two fellows out the next day. They assessed the damage and were back with a crew of 6 in two days to make repairs to the cabin roof, clean the mold off the bamboo support structure and remove the fallen limb on the power line.
The next two night we spent at a $95/n B&B suite with pool and ocean side El Tao, run by an Italian couple Flavio and Pile. Unfortunately we just needed a nice bed for the night as it was necessary to get back each day to work on cleaning up the cabin
Roof going back on.
Dinner at a new "also" Italian restaurant in Las Lajas! Very nice! We are 37th anniversary.
Nice B&B named I believe El or La Tao
Meanwhile back at the house another storm was roaring down from above our home in Cerro Punta. Thirty five homes were loss and three deaths. This river the Chirqui Viejo winds around our house about a 1/4 mile from our home.
